The Kraken place fifth at the Eastern Conference Divisional Meet

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Central Wisconsin Swim Conference held the Eastern Conference Divisional Meet at Tomahawk, Wisconsin on Jan. 31-Feb. 1. The Wisconsin Rapids Swim Club finished in fifth place. Team scores are as follows: Minocqua 4493, Rhinelander 3156, Antigo 1411, Merrill 1289, Wisconsin Rapids 1160, Tomahawk 710.
The recap for the Krakens includes six first place winners, sixty-five personal records and fourteen new club records.
“It is hard to see greatness when swimming against long time established programs, but the WR Krakens did just that,” said Head Coach Dave Kontz. “There were thirty-five individual heat winners, which means our swimmers came to compete.”
Of the thirty-three swimmers competing, the Kraken qualified 22 swimmers and seven relay for the Conference Champions, held on Feb. 7-8. The Conference Championship was held at the Rhinelander High School pool.
The Kraken winners at the Eastern Conference Divisional Meet start with Jay Berg with first place in the 50-yard breaststroke, third in the 100-yard freestyle and a pair of fifths in the 25-yard backstroke and 25-yard freestyle. Tretton Delaney had the triple crown with first place finishes in the 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, with a new club record in the 100 breast.

Anna Gumz set a new club record with first place in the 25-yard breaststroke. Gumz added it to her list of state qualifying events. Gumz also finished in second place in the 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard and 50-yard freestyle, with a fourth place in the 100-yard individual medley. Brycen Henslin finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke. Henslin also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle. Lastly, Henslin placed fourth place in the 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle.
Milo Jennings finished first in the 25-yard freestyle with a new club record and a new state qualifying time. Jennings also had a pair of second places in the 25-yard and 50-yard breaststroke, fourth place in the 50-yard butterfly, fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and a sixth-place finish in the 25-yard backstroke. Finally, Vivian Zacher won the 50-yard freestyle. Zacher also placed third in the 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard individual medley and 50-yard backstroke, with a new club record. Vivian ended the day with a fifth in the 50-yard breast and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Addison Borek took second in the 50-yard breaststroke and fourth place in the 100-yard individual medley, 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke. Borek’s final race of the day was a sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke. All her efforts were new club records.
Jameson Bernette finished second in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle. Bernette also placed third in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke. Finally, Bernette finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a new personal record. Joey Doebereiner finished in second place in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke. Doebereiner also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle, and fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke. Doebereiner placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. AJ Plummer placed second in the 50-yard butterfly, with a new club record, and 100-yard butterfly. Plummer finished third in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, as well as the 50-yard backstroke.
Other finishes include Ryan Besasie with a fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (PR). Claira Jennings finished fourth in the 50-yard butterfly, and set a new club record, Claira also placed sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke (PR). Mya Marquard placed fourth in the 50-yard backstroke, setting a new club record, fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and finally, sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with another new club record.
Kyndel Borek placed fifth in the 50-yard and 200-yard breastroke (PR) and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (PR). Reese Koch finished in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 500 freestyle. Chasten Delaney had a pair of sixth places in the 100-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle. Mackenzie Miloch placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. Aubrey Knoll placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. Finally, Gavin Bernette placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Kraken will always honor the swimmers who achieve a personal record at each swim meet. The swimmers who did so at the divisional meet were McKenna Anderson, Charles Berg, Michael Berg, Kali Bernette, Cora Bragg, Ophelia Curry, Willow Devine, Wyatt Hamilton, Emma Knoll, Payton Kraklow, Kensington Lercher, Body Slabosheski and Rhiannon Zabawa
The Kraken age group boys 100-yard freestyle relay placed fourth with Jay Berg, Ole Berg, Milo Jennings and Brody Slabosheski swimming. The Kraken placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Wyatt Hamilton, Milo Jennings, Jay Berg and Ryan Besasie. The Kraken age group girls 200-yard medley relay placed eighth with Anna Gumz, Kensi Lercher, Aubrey Knoll and Rhiannon Zabawa.
The middle school girls 200 freestyle relay placed fifth and set a new club record. The 200 medley relay placed fourth and also set a new club record. Swimming for the Kraken was Mya Marquard, Kyndel Borek, Claira Jennings and Janessa Rucinski.
The senior girls 200 freestyle relay placed fourth with Mackenzie Miloch, Addison Borek, Reese Koch and Vivian Zacher. The senior boys won both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200 medley relay. Swimming for Rapids was Brycen Henslin, Tretton Delaney, AJ Plummer and Joey Doebereiner.
