PORT EDWARDS – The Alexander House will present its newest exhibition, “Capturing Color - Metaphors in Metal,” starting with an opening ceremony from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 at 1131 Wisconsin River Dr., Port Edwards. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy an evening of art, conversation and light refreshments in the warm and welcoming setting of this historic gallery home.
The exhibition, featuring artists Nancy Laliberte and Joan North, will be on display from Oct. 2 to Nov. 17.
Originally from Wausau, artist Nancy Laliberte’s love for art was apparent as a very young child. Growing up, creativity and art-making was woven into her daily activities. Laliberte went on to study graphic communications and journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After working for over 20 years as an art director and designer in the advertising industry, she decided to follow her heart and pursue her love of painting. Learn more at www.nancylaliberte.com.
Local silversmith Joan North shapes metal into jewelry that reflects the human condition, transforming precious materials and stones into living metaphors. A St. Louis native via Fairhope, Ala., Joan has lived in Stevens Point since joining the UWSP administration in 1985. Now a lifelong resident, she spends her time playing tennis, bridge, walking, reading, and — of course — manipulating and maneuvering metal. Learn more at www.joannorthdesigns.com.
