WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin River Orthopaedics and the Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids are pleased to announce their achievement in earning the Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification from The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and The Joint Commission. This prestigious certification underscores the orthopaedic group’s commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality care for patients undergoing total hip and knee replacement procedures.
This accomplishment highlights the commitment of Wisconsin River Orthopaedics and the Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids in providing exceptional orthopaedic care in central Wisconsin. Patients can be assured that they are receiving care that exceeds nationally recognized standards for quality, safety and outcomes in total hip and knee replacement.
“We are confident our team provides excellent, cutting-edge care in hip and knee replacement surgery. It is gratifying to be nationally recognized for such, but the true testament is our patient outcomes,” stated Todd Duellman, orthopaedic surgeon, who has been a performing hip and knee replacement with the organization for nearly 20 years.
The Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids is in rare company. It is one of two Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Wisconsin and the only ambulatory center west of Greater Milwaukee to have achieved the Advanced Certification in Hip and Knee Replacement.
“Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to excellence and continuous improvement in patient safety and care quality,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer at The Joint Commission. “We commend Wisconsin River Orthopaedics and the Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids for employing The Joint Commission certification process to minimize clinical process variation and enhance its clinical program, delivering safer, higher-quality and more compassionate care to its patients.”
The Advanced Certification encompasses the entire continuum of care, including the initial pre-surgical orthopedic consultation, surgical procedure, hospitalization or ambulatory surgery center admission, rehabilitation and follow-up care with the orthopaedic surgeon. This certification underscores a dedication to standardized, evidence-based practices that enhance patient outcomes, safety and satisfaction.
As part of the certification process, Wisconsin River Orthopaedics and the Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on Nov. 18 and 19, 2025. During this review, Joint Commission experts assessed compliance with advanced standards pertaining to clinical care, performance improvement, patient education, care coordination and safety protocols specific to total hip and knee replacement services.
