Share Christmas Tree Walk memories

The South Wood County Historical Museum is preparing to celebrate the 10th Annual Christmas Tree Walk this December, and they need the community’s help preserving the memories of this cherished holiday tradition

WISCONSIN RAPIDS –  Since its debut in 2015, the Christmas Tree Walk has welcomed thousands of visitors to the museum and become a beloved part of the holiday season for families, friends, volunteers, decorators and sponsors throughout the community. Although the event could not be held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebration marks the 10th Christmas Tree Walk, a milestone made possible by a decade of community support and participation.
To commemorate this special occasion, the museum is preparing a special commemorative issue of “Artifacts,” the South Wood County Historical Museum’s magazine published three times each year, dedicated to the history and memories of the first ten Christmas Tree Walks. This special issue will be available to museum members and the public.
The museum is inviting the public to share their memories by participating in the Christmas Tree Walk Memories Project. Through the museum’s survey, people can:
• Share how long they’ve attended the Christmas Tree Walk
• Share favorite memories, traditions and stories
• Submit photographs from past Christmas Tree Walks
• Help document the history of this community tradition for future generations
Participants will have the opportunity to indicate whether they would like their stories and photographs preserved in the museum archives and/or considered for publication in the commemorative issue of “Artifacts.”
Whether guests attended one or all of the Christmas Tree Walks, decorated a tree or a space for the event, volunteered behind the scenes or made it part of their family’s holiday traditions, the museum would love to hear about it.
The museum thanks the community for helping to preserve ten years of holiday memories and celebrate one of South Wood County’s most treasured holiday traditions. Submitted stories and photographs will help ensure that the history of the Christmas Tree Walk is preserved for future generations.
