Port Palooza Block Party set for Saturday

Posted

PORT EDWARDS – The Port Edwards community is gearing up for a vibrant, family-friendly celebration as the Port Palooza Block Party takes over Market Avenue in the heart of downtown on Saturday, Aug. 29. Running from 4-8 p.m., the village-wide festival promises an action-packed late summer afternoon featuring live entertainment, local eats and friendly competition for residents and visitors of all ages.
A packed schedule of activities
Port Palooza offers a wide array of attractions designed to keep the entire family engaged. Fitness enthusiasts can lace up their sneakers for a 5K Fun Run through town, while music lovers can enjoy live musical performances throughout the evening. Local food trucks will serve a variety of options alongside bounce houses, storytime sessions and a community cornhole tournament.
Family Olympics and pie-eating contest
Among the afternoon’s highlights are two featured competitions: the highly anticipated pie-eating contest and the Port Palooza Family Olympics. Advance registration is required for both events and can be completed in person at El Cafe. Registration forms for the Family Olympics require a registered team name and designated team captain.

The Family Olympics will feature at least four field events, including a potato sack race, a relay race, a granny pants relay and a water bucket sponge challenge. Teams are limited to four participants, but teams can consist of any combination of family members and friends.
To ensure fair play across different age groups, organizers have implemented an age handicap system. Children aged six or younger will receive a 10-foot head start in racing events, while participants aged 7-12 will get a five-foot head start. Participants aged 13 and older will start from the standard starting line.
Should two or more teams tie at the end of the scheduled games, a sponge relay tiebreaker will determine the final score. Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall teams, and the team with the highest combined score across all events will be officially crowned the 2026 Port Palooza Family Olympics champion.
