STEVENS POINT – GI Associates is hosting its first-ever Go With Your Gut 5K on Saturday, April 25 at 8 a.m. in Stevens Point. Whether you run or walk, this event is for anyone who wants to get out, get active and support the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
The out-and-back, flat, paved, chip-timed course will begin and end at GI Associates, 3225 Business Park Drive, Stevens Point. Registration includes a race T-shirt, and awards will be given to overall male and female winners, as well as top finishers in multiple age groups.
Funds raised will support the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s research to improve treatments and find cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Proceeds will also help sustain local chapter programs in Wisconsin, providing education and resources for patients and caregivers in the community.
“This event grew out of the relationships we have with our patients,” said Tammy Kirsling, RN and clinic manager at GI Associates in Stevens Point. “We see the resilience it takes to live with Crohn’s and colitis, and we wanted to create something positive that brings people together.”
Inflammatory bowel disease, which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, affects millions of Americans. Recent estimates indicate that nearly one in 100 people in the United States has IBD.
“Events like the Go With Your Gut 5K give people way to support their own health through exercise, while also supporting the Crohn’s patients in our own community.” said Kirsling. “And after a long winter, a 5K is a great way to get outside and get moving again.”
Registration for Go With Your Gut 5K is now open online at runsingup.com. Participants are encouraged to register by April 22 to reserve their T-shirt size, though same-day registration will be available.
