TOWN OF GRANT – A weekend crash claimed the life of one teenager and left another seriously injured.
Officials say the 17-year-old male driver of a pickup truck lost control of the vehicle, which then struck an embankment before overturning and coming to rest on its roof. The driver and 18-year-old front-seat passenger both were partially ejected from the truck, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The pickup truck’s driver was flown to Marshfield Hospital via Life Link Helicopter, but the front-seat passenger died at the scene, officials said. Both are from Wisconsin Rapids, as were the two passengers in the back seat. The rear seat passengers – a 17-year-old male and an 18-year old female – were uninjured.
The crash happened just after 1 a.m. July 5 on Evergreen Avenue, west of 110th Street, in the town of Grant. It remains under investigation, and officials have not released any names.
