City of Wisconsin Rapids seeks to revitalize highways

Mayor, local leaders, business owners to highlight corridor conditions, community impacts

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids’ mayor will be joined by community and business leaders for a tour of three of the deteriorating state highways in Wisconsin Rapids. Business leaders, residents and others will share how these aging roadways negatively impact the city’s quality of life and vitality.
The tour will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Daley Avenue and 7th St. S, Wisconsin Rapids (In case of inclement weather, the location will be moved to City Hall Council Chambers).
The recently passed state transportation budget included a significant increase to the State Highway Rehabilitation Program. However, without a long-term fix to how Wisconsin funds transportation, leaders fear that the state will be unable to maintain its transportation priorities and projects will be delayed.
The press conference will begin at the intersection of 8th St. S and East Riverview Expressway. It will feature Wisconsin Rapids’ Mayor Matt Zacher, the Chamber of Commerce, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and local small business owners. State lawmakers have been invited to attend.
