AP Scholar awards

Posted

LINCOLN – Advanced Placement (AP) courses are among the most challenging courses available in American high schools. Excellence in these courses and the tests with which they culminate demonstrates a commitment to high achievement and reflects well on both the scholars and their teachers. Most four-year colleges in the United States provide credit and/or advanced placement for qualifying exam scores. Additionally, research consistently shows that AP students who score a three or higher on AP exams typically experience greater academic success in college and have higher college graduation rates than students who do not participate in AP.
Lincoln High School is proud to announce that our habit of excellence on AP tests continued this past spring, with students exceeding the state average in every testable subject and many earning awards for their performance. Here is how AP determines its scholar ranks along with how many LHS students earned each level:

AP Scholar Awards

AP Scholar- Granted to students who receive scores of three or higher on three or more AP Exams (a three or higher usually earns college credit at most universities). Nineteen Lincoln High School students have AP exams earned the rank of AP Scholar, including three freshmen, seven sophomores and nine seniors.
AP Scholar with Honor- Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these exams. Eight LHS students are now AP Scholars with Honor, including one junior and seven seniors.

AP Scholar with Distinction- Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on five or more of these exams. Seventeen Red Raiders are AP Scholars with Distinction, including four juniors and 13 seniors.
This brings our total to 44 students at Lincoln High School who have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement at LHS after the 2024-25 AP Examinations.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) offers 38 college-level courses and exams, giving prepared high school students the chance to take rigorous classes and earn college credit or advanced placement. Each exam is designed by college faculty and AP teachers to meet the same high academic standards as top universities. Over 3,600 colleges and universities accept AP scores, yet only about 20% of students nationwide earn AP Scholar recognition. At Lincoln High School, students had access to 10 AP courses last year, took 211 exams, and outperformed the national average in every subject. LHS students achieved an average score of 3.8, with 90% earning a three or higher—qualifying them for college credit.
Although each teacher would like give all of the credit to their students, the following teachers help lead these scholars to their success:
• Mrs. Kylie Barnes- AP Psychology
• Mr. Jacob Bertagnoli - AP US History and AP Human Geography
• Mr. Kurt Jensen - AP Literature and Composition
• Mrs. Stacy Moyer - AP PreCalculus
• Mr. Craig Ontl - AP Chemistry
• Mr. Justin Pyan - AP Statistics
• Mrs. Paula Reaves - AP Microeconomics and AP Government
• Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas - AP Calculus
Congratulations to our AP Scholars and their teachers. This success reflects well on Lincoln High School and sets each of these students up for success on the next steps of their educational journey. LHS is hopeful that this habit of success will carry over to another successful testing season in May of 2026.
