MARSHFIELD – Auditions for the Adler Film Project will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Chestnut Center for the Arts in Marshfield, beginning at noon.
The film is an adaptation of “Showstopper,” a book by Kris Leonhardt, and will be directed by Green Bay film producer Freddy Moyano.
The project will be filmed in Marshfield, where the book originated, and will depict the lives of J. P. Adler and Better Adler, and the running of the Adler Theatre Company.
Auditions will be conducted in-person only and are open to all actors, both professional and non-professional.
According to Moyano, auditions will be held on a first-come, first-served basis and no appointments are required.
Actors are encouraged to arrive one hour early, prior to the noon start.
Auditioners will perform in front of a panel of five individuals overseeing the initial casting call.
Participants will be given a script excerpt — known as a “side” — upon arrival and will have time to review it before performing.
Actors may audition for up to two characters, depending on time availability.
“The sides are going to be maybe a page or a page and a half with some dialogue, and someone else on the panel will be reading the other side,” Moyano said.
Memorization is not required.
The script is still in development, and the total number of speaking roles has not been finalized.
The film is expected to include approximately 10 to 12 speaking roles, along with multiple non-speaking extra roles.
Speaking roles will be paid, while extra roles will be volunteer-based.
Major roles include J.P. Adler; his daughters Anne and Betty; and his wife, Rosa.
Additional roles will be supporting characters.
A synopsis and a list of available characters with descriptions will be provided at the auditions.
Actors are asked to bring a one-page résumé outlining their acting experience and a professional headshot, preferably taken by a photographer and printed in color.
Business casual attire is recommended. Actors are asked not to arrive dressed in character.
The finished film is expected to run between 40 and 120 minutes.
Callbacks will be held online, tentatively scheduled for April 11, using Google Meets.
Moyano also noted the possibility of casting an A-list actor or other professional actor in a featured role.
“I think it’s important to have someone like that to inspire other actors,” he said.
In addition to actors, the production is seeking period-appropriate props, including old vehicles, carriages and items from the years 1854 to 1970.
Individuals with relevant items are encouraged to notify the audition coordinators that day.
