Letter: Citizens’ Water Coalition of Wisconsin Endorses Wood Co. Board Candidates
To the Editor:
Citizens’ Water Coalition of Wisconsin believes water is the common ground among grassroots groups opposing frac sand and other mining, pipelines, high capacity wells, easing of shoreline zoning rules, and concentrated animal feeding operations across Wisconsin. They’ve joined forces in order to unify their voices and strategically focus on what is needed — elected officials who are willing to stand up and fight for citizens’ rights to clean water.
CWC’s most recent campaign called Replace the Face in 2018 focuses on County Board elections statewide and encourages local citizens to publicly identify Water Warriors running in the upcoming April County Board elections.
Wood County Board incumbents and challengers were posed two specific water questions as part of the campaign; What is the drinking water situation in your county, where are the problem areas and what are you willing to do to protect drinking water.
There are 8 seats up for grabs on the Wood County Board yet the vast majority of current incumbents to those seats refused to supply answers to the questions posed. Whereas the challengers willingly investigated and replied almost immediately.
Citizens’ Water Coalition of Wisconsin has selected the following individuals in Wood County as Wisconsin Water Warriors and supports their candidacy for the Wood County Board of Supervisors.
Challengers: Tony Eilers Dist. 2, Jake Hahn Dist 8, Deb Beadle Dist 9, Mark Holbrook Dist 10, Jay Jackson Dist 14, Khrys Riley Dist 16, and Robert Shear Dist 18. Only three incumbents supplied detailed answers and are also ranked among this group of Water Warriors: Bill Leichtnam Dist 19, Joe Zurfluh Dist 17, Robert Ashbeck Dist 7.
Best of luck to our identified Water Warriors in the upcoming election. To read more about the Replace the Face in 2018 campaign please visit our webpage www.cwcwi.org
