A Finance & Property committee gathered on Tuesday, Feb. 14. here are some notable news and notes from that meeting.
YMCA ‘Bridge 2 Bridge’ 5K Relay/Run/Walk Approved
The committee approved a special events application for the South Wood County YMCA annual 5k run/walk event. The run/walk would start at Witter Field, down Mead St. to 2nd St. South, and crossing E. Grand Ave. — then through Veterans Memorial Park through Ahdawagam Trail to 1st Ave. South to the Riverview Expressay bridge, then back to Witter field.
There will be expected temporary street closures along this route. There will be an establishment of a runner’s lane, as well as vendors throughout the course.
Lift Station Approved
The city approved the purchase of a lift station to be installed at 111 Sherwood Terrace. A lift station moves wastewater from lower elevations to higher elevations. The total cost of the lift station will amount to $5,088, which has been previously budgeted.
Costs Assessed for East Town Plaza Demolition
The committee approved allocating city crews for an interior demolition of the East Town Plaza property, located at 130 2nd St. North. This includes an asbestos and lead abatement from Infra-Con Inc.
The total cost for the demolition and asbestos assessment equates to approximately $80,000. $60,000 for the interior demolition, and $20,000 for the asbestos abatement. There is currently $84,000 available in the city’s acquisition budget fund, so no extra funding will be necessary for this process.
According to Director of Economic Development Adam Tegan, the move will make the property more attractive to potential developers apart of the triangle redevelopment and riverfront projects.
